The project revives elements of the 1995 Super Famicom title Lady Stalker and reunites developers and designers who worked together in the early 1990s.
Background and development
Kan Naito announced Lady Stalker 2D in March 2026 as a new NES/Famicom-style RPG that draws direct inspiration from Climax Entertainment’s 1995 Lady Stalker.
Character designs for the new project are being used from the late Yoshitaka Tamaki, who passed away in 2023.
Naito and Tamaki previously collaborated at Climax Entertainment on titles such as Shining in the Darkness (1991) and Landstalker (1992), and all three — Naito, Tamaki and Hiroyuki Takahashi — trace part of the series’ lineage back to their time at Enix, where early plans for a spin-off from Dragon Quest IV were first discussed.
Crowdfunding schedule and delivery window
The development team has confirmed a public crowdfunding campaign will begin on October 9, 2026.
According to the team’s update posted September 18, 2026, the goal is to complete and ship the final game between February and the end of March 2027.
The update states that development is near its final stages and that the project intends to return the Lady Stalker concept after a 31-year gap, combining familiar, nostalgic elements with fresh design.
Hardware and special edition details
The physical release will be a Famicom-compatible cartridge with built-in LEDs that react to on-screen action.
The team also said it is developing a Famicom-compatible console to support the release.
Taito handled publishing duties for the original Lady Stalker in 1995; the new project is led by KAN NAITO (listed as the primary developer) and honors the late Tamaki’s character art.
Legacy and context
Lady Stalker 2D arrives as part of renewed interest in retro-style, regionally authentic cartridge releases and retro hardware.
With its direct ties to Climax Entertainment’s 1990s catalog and contributions from figures connected to Enix-era projects, the title will be watched closely by fans of classic JRPGs and collectors of physical retro releases.
The October 9 crowdfunding launch will provide concrete funding and fulfillment details for backers.
