Chingling, the baby Pokémon first introduced in Pokémon Diamond & Pearl, is making a rare return to the Pokémon Trading Card Game with an appearance in the newest expansion, 'The Glory of Team Rocket.' Developed and published by The Pokémon Company, the Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG) has seen a remarkable surge in global popularity, buoyed by events such as Nintendo Direct announcements and the digital version Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket available on Nintendo Switch and via the eShop.
The expanded engagement with the TCG in recent years, combined with the increasing value of collectible cards, has kept both competitive players and collectors invested in upcoming releases.
While many Pokémon regularly receive new cards, Chingling has notably been absent.
Since its TCG debut in 2007, Chingling has appeared on only three cards, with its most recent release dating back to 2009.
This extended absence is concluding with the launch of 'The Glory of Team Rocket' expansion in Japan on April 18, 2025.
According to a clear statement from The Pokémon Company, Chingling will be featured in this set with a brand-new and endearing card design, providing longtime fans an eagerly anticipated collectible.
Alongside this reveal, it has been confirmed that the forthcoming Team Rocket cards, including Chingling's, will also be incorporated into the 'Destined Rivals' expansion, which is scheduled for release on May 30, 2025.
This seamless integration ensures that competitive players and dedicated collectors have additional opportunities to add the new Chingling card to their collections.
'We're excited to bring Chingling back into the spotlight with a special design for the Team Rocket collection,' a representative from The Pokémon Company noted, reflecting fan enthusiasm for the baby Pokémon’s return.
The introduction of new characters and card artwork remains a driving factor in the TCG’s ongoing success, even as challenges like product scarcity and high resale prices occasionally impact the player base.
The resurgence in Pokémon Trading Card Game interest is attributed both to new digital platforms, including the Nintendo Switch, and to the remarkable spike in card values worldwide.
Despite periodic difficulties such as expansion launches facing supply issues, the TCG remains a pillar of Nintendo’s broader entertainment ecosystem.
Pokémon Trading Card Game fans can anticipate the launch of 'The Glory of Team Rocket' in Japan on April 18, 2025, with 'Destined Rivals' following on May 30, 2025.
Collectors and players alike are encouraged to stay tuned to official channels and the eShop for further updates, as the TCG continues to celebrate both iconic species and lesser-seen favorites like Chingling.
