Edia, the respected Japanese developer and publisher known for reviving retro favorites such as the Telenet Shooting Collection, Cosmic Fantasy Collection, and Cho Aniki Collection, has officially announced the upcoming Nintendo Switch physical release of the cult classic RPG Tenshi no Uta: Shiroki Tsubasa no Inori.
Originally released for the Super Famicom in 1994, this third and final entry in the beloved Tenshi no Uta series is scheduled to launch in physical form on September 18, 2024, exclusively in Japan.
Tenshi no Uta: Shiroki Tsubasa no Inori, often translated as 'Angel's Poem: Prayer of the White Wings,' weaves a heartfelt tale of love and adventure.
Players guide Reyard, a young protagonist who falls deeply for Kurana, an artist and performer within a traveling troupe.
When Kurana suddenly disappears and faces an unwanted arranged marriage, Reyard embarks on a rescue journey with his friends, hoping to secure their chance to elope.
The game stands out for its engaging narrative and compelling characters, attributes that have helped the Tenshi no Uta series endure as a fan favorite within Japan's RPG community.
Despite its legacy, Tenshi no Uta: Shiroki Tsubasa no Inori has never previously been released outside Japan, making this new edition particularly significant for both retro enthusiasts and collectors.
Edia's renewed focus on the series began with a successful crowdfunding campaign on the Japanese platform Makuake in 2024, where the inclusion of this title was unlocked as a stretch goal for the Tenshi No Uta Collection.
This move demonstrated strong community interest in bringing classic Japanese RPGs to modern consoles like the Nintendo Switch.
According to a recent press statement from Edia, the physical edition of Tenshi no Uta: Shiroki Tsubasa no Inori is already available for pre-order on Amazon.jp, priced at ¥4,290.
Edia further confirmed that a digital release, along with an official English translation, is currently in development.
The company indicated that further details about the digital and localized versions will be made available soon, assuring fans that more announcements are on the horizon.
At present, there is no confirmation that the entire Tenshi No Uta Collection will receive a similar Western release.
Nonetheless, the arrival of Tenshi no Uta: Shiroki Tsubasa no Inori on Nintendo Switch marks a meaningful step in making these important pieces of RPG history accessible to a broader international audience.
Fans and newcomers alike can look forward to experiencing this classic tale of love and heroism when it launches in Japan this September.
