Sunsoft, a renowned name in retro gaming, has unveiled its latest project for modern platforms: 'Ripple Island: Kyle & Cal's Restaurant.' This new title, designed for Nintendo Switch 2 and PC (via Steam), serves as a fresh spin-off from the beloved Nintendo Famicom game Ripple Island.

The announcement was made via Sunsoft’s official YouTube channel and quickly generated buzz among both retro enthusiasts and fans of cooperative cooking games. Originally released in 1988, Ripple Island was a narrative-driven adventure for the Nintendo Famicom.

Players guided the young hero Kyle through a lush land where people and animals coexist in harmony.

His quest—to rescue a kidnapped princess from a sinister emperor—captivated a generation of Japanese gamers.

For years, Ripple Island remained a Japan-exclusive, but in 2024, Sunsoft introduced the classic to Western audiences as part of the 'Sunsoft is Back!: Retro Game Selection,’ which also included other favorites such as Wings of Madoola and Firework Thrower Kantaro's 53 Stations of the Tokaido. Building on this revived interest, Sunsoft has developed 'Ripple Island: Kyle & Cal’s Restaurant,’ an Overcooked-style multiplayer experience set within the Ripple Island universe.

The storyline centers on a culinary competition hosted by the returning character, King Dotella, drawing in protagonists Kyle, Cal, and their animal friends for a friendly but fierce kitchen battle.

Players will need to collaborate, gather ingredients, clean up, and prepare delicious dishes in pursuit of victory. 'Ripple Island: Kyle & Cal’s Restaurant' is designed to accommodate both solo and group play, supporting up to eight players in local multiplayer on a single Nintendo Switch 2 system.

Online, the title offers room for up to sixteen participants, encouraging lively cooperative or competitive sessions.

In a move to appeal to a global audience, the game will launch with language options including Japanese, English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Korean, as well as both Traditional and Simplified Chinese—making it accessible to fans worldwide. Set to release in Japan on November 27, 2025, 'Ripple Island: Kyle & Cal’s Restaurant' will retail for 4,378 yen (approximately $30 USD or £22 GBP).
