Nintendo Continues to Enhance Switch Library With Beloved Classics
Nintendo remains dedicated to extending the lifespan and appeal of its flagship hardware, the Nintendo Switch, as the platform approaches its eighth year in the market.
The company has recently bolstered its 2025 release schedule by reviving celebrated titles from previous generations, a strategy that has so far included ports of games like Donkey Kong Country Returns and Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition.
A new report, originating from respected commentator Nate the Hate, suggests that fans can expect another high-profile addition to the Switch library in 2025.
On his podcast, Nate shared that one of his personal favorites, Kirby: Planet Robobot, is expected to make its way to the Nintendo Switch next year.
While the information stems from a rumor, Nate expressed considerable confidence in the port’s likelihood, underscoring Nintendo’s pattern of using well-loved older titles to supplement the Switch’s upcoming software lineup.
Notably, he emphasized Planet Robobot’s reputation as one of the finest games available on the Nintendo 3DS, and highlighted its potential to invigorate the Switch’s 2025 offerings.
Originally developed by HAL Laboratory and released for the Nintendo 3DS in 2016, Kirby: Planet Robobot received critical acclaim, with major outlets like Nintendo Life awarding it high marks for its inventive level design and engaging platforming mechanics.
The game allowed players to wield the titular Robobot Armor, adding a dynamic twist to the traditional Kirby formula.
Following its success, Kirby’s most recent appearance on Switch was in Return to Dream Land Deluxe (2023), a remake of the Wii classic.
Nintendo’s practice of bringing legacy content to new hardware has not only helped introduce these games to a new generation of players but has also contributed to impressive platform sales figures.
The Switch has surpassed 139 million units sold globally as of March 2024 (per Nintendo’s official sales data), cementing its place as one of the best-selling consoles of all time.
Ports and remakes have played a significant role in this momentum by sustaining interest between major first-party releases announced during events like Nintendo Direct.
Fans eager to revisit Kirby: Planet Robobot—or experience it for the first time—may soon have the opportunity should these reports prove accurate.
For now, Nintendo has not officially confirmed the Switch port, so it remains unannounced.
Past patterns, however, suggest that the publisher values its extensive back catalog and continues to leverage it via Nintendo Switch, the eShop, and physical releases.
Stay tuned to official channels for confirmation on Kirby: Planet Robobot’s potential arrival on the Nintendo Switch in 2025, as well as further updates on Nintendo’s ongoing strategy for expanding its celebrated library.
