Pokémon TCG Pocket 'Mythical Island' Expansion Now Live: New Cards, Features, and Upcoming Trading Update

Pokémon TCG Pocket continues to expand its digital card game experience with the launch of the highly anticipated 'Mythical Island' expansion.

Released as a free automatic update, the new booster set is available now across all platforms, including Nintendo Switch and mobile, further cementing the game's presence among card game enthusiasts and Pokémon fans alike. The 'Mythical Island' update introduces 68 freshly designed standard cards, expanding the core roster with rare finds such as Mew, Celebi, and Aerodactyl.

In addition to these core cards, collectors and players can also hunt down approximately 20 new secret cards, challenging trainers to complete their growing digital collections. Beyond the influx of new cards, the expansion introduces a 'themed collection' set of missions.

These missions reward players with exclusive items, including Wonder Hourglasses, Emblem Tickets, and sought-after profile icons.

For this release, trainers can unlock Mew and Blue (trainer) profile icons by collecting three of each designated card design within the expansion.

This mission structure encourages continued engagement and adds an accessible way for players to personalize their profiles within the Pokémon TCG Pocket ecosystem. Notably, the development team has confirmed a significant update set for early 2025, which will introduce the long-awaited card trading feature.

Starting in January, players will be able to trade select cards with others within the game.

While the initial pool of tradeable cards may be limited, the developers have stated—using language reflecting a steady launch—that the roster will be expanded over time to provide broader trading opportunities for the community. Pokémon TCG Pocket, developed in collaboration with The Pokémon Company and Game Freak, launched to strong reception on the Nintendo Switch and has maintained a vibrant player base since its debut.

The addition of the 'Mythical Island' expansion and the forthcoming trading functionality are clear signals of continued support and community-building efforts for the title. Users can access the latest expansion via the eShop or mobile update, ensuring a seamless and cost-free rollout.
