The Pokémon Company has unveiled the much-anticipated first details about the starter Pokémon for Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet, the next major entries in the long-running franchise.
Developed by Game Freak and launching exclusively on the Nintendo Switch, Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet are set for release in late 2022, marking a new chapter in the iconic series that has captivated millions of players worldwide since its inception.
Fans received their first glimpse of the new starters—Sprigatito, Fuecoco, and Quaxly—through an official announcement from The Pokémon Company.
These three Pokémon represent the traditional Grass, Fire, and Water types, continuing the franchise’s established starter formula while introducing distinctly fresh designs and personalities tailored to the new region in Scarlet and Violet.
Sprigatito, the Grass Cat Pokémon, showcases a whimsical and lively nature.
Standing 1'4" tall and weighing 9 lbs., Sprigatito is identified by its Overgrow ability, a classic trait of Grass-type starters.
According to The Pokémon Company, this Pokémon is described as capricious and relishes attention, embodying an expressive spirit that players are sure to connect with as they begin their journey.
Moving to the Fire starter, Fuecoco is known as the Fire Croc Pokémon.
Measuring 1'4" in height and tipping the scales at 21.6 lbs., Fuecoco is characterized by its laid-back and carefree attitude.
Its Blaze ability enhances its Fire-type moves at critical moments in battle.
Game Freak notes that Fuecoco marches to the beat of its own drum, operating at its own pace and offering players a uniquely relaxed companion as they explore the new world of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.
Completing the trio is Quaxly, the earnest Duckling Pokémon.
Slightly taller at 1'8" and weighing 13.4 lbs., Quaxly boasts the Torrent ability, amplifying the power of its Water-type attacks when needed most.
The Pokémon Company describes Quaxly as tidy and diligent, underlining a strong work ethic and earnest disposition that sets it apart in the latest lineup of starters.
Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet continue Game Freak’s tradition of innovation, building on the success of previous titles for the Nintendo Switch, such as Pokémon Sword and Shield.
The games aim to deliver a fresh experience while honoring core elements that have defined the series, such as strategic turn-based battles, robust exploration, and a diverse roster of creatures to encounter.
Official statements from The Pokémon Company emphasize the distinctive personalities and abilities of these new starters, setting the stage for what promises to be an exciting release.
"Each Pokémon introduces unique traits and playstyles, inviting Trainers to forge new bonds as they explore the evolving world of Pokémon," a company representative explained in a summarized statement.
With the global launch of Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet on the Nintendo Switch slated for late 2022, anticipation is high among both veteran Trainers and newcomers alike.
