Netflix has closed two internal development teams — Night School Studio and Moonloot — in a move the company describes as a strategic refocus of its gaming business.

The closures were reported by Game File and confirmed by statements from Netflix about shifting priorities within its interactive content division.

Night School Studio, best known for the narrative adventure Oxenfree and its 2023 sequel, most recently released a short streaming title called Unhinged.

Netflix has described Unhinged as one of its most successful cloud game debuts, alongside FIFA World Cup: Launch Edition.

Moonloot, a smaller studio founded in 2022 and without published titles, was reportedly working on a project inspired by Animal Crossing.

In announcing the changes, Netflix said it intends to concentrate development around specific categories.

Paraphrasing the company’s statement, Netflix said it plans to tighten its focus and reorganize the business so its teams and resources better align with strategic priorities such as kids games, party experiences, story-driven titles and other games with mainstream appeal.

The company also confirmed it is reducing headcount within its internal games team; Netflix did not disclose how many employees were affected.

Game File’s reporting framed the studio closures as part of this broader organizational adjustment.

Night School Studio had built a reputation for narrative-driven indie experiences, and its Oxenfree franchise drew critical attention for its writing and atmosphere.

Netflix’s recent cloud-first initiatives — including streaming-native games like Unhinged — formed part of the company’s experiment with delivering games through its streaming platform.

Netflix launched its internal games efforts with an emphasis on integrating titles into its subscription service, and the company has broadened its portfolio to include mobile and cloud-delivered experiences.

The latest closures underline a pivot toward a narrower slate of game types that Netflix believes will best complement its broader entertainment offerings.

As Netflix restructures its internal development teams, the industry will watch how the company reallocates resources and whether future releases will emphasize the categories it has identified.

For now, the confirmed facts remain: Night School Studio and Moonloot are closed, Unhinged and FIFA World Cup: Launch Edition were cited by Netflix as notable cloud debuts, and Netflix is reshaping its games organization to match its stated priorities.
