Kleavor Introduced as New Evolution for Scyther in Pokémon Legends: Arceus for Nintendo Switch

The Pokémon Company International has officially announced that Kleavor, a brand new Bug/Rock-type Pokémon, will debut as an evolution of Scyther in the highly anticipated title Pokémon Legends: Arceus.

Developed by Game Freak, Pokémon Legends: Arceus is set to launch exclusively for Nintendo Switch worldwide on January 28, 2022, introducing groundbreaking action and RPG mechanics to the iconic franchise. Kleavor emerges as a result of Scyther's exposure to special minerals native to the Hisui region, the historical setting for Pokémon Legends: Arceus.

Sporting a striking design that highlights stone-hardened body parts, Kleavor is classified as the Axe Pokémon, standing at 5 feet 11 inches and weighing 196.2 pounds.

The stone segments on its body often become chipped during intense battles, and Kleavor who have endured many confrontations display larger chips, symbolizing their experience.

Lore from the Hisui region adds further depth, indicating that ancient peoples once repurposed fragments of Kleavor's stone body to make tools, weaving this new Pokémon into the fabric of the game's world. Pokémon Legends: Arceus represents a major evolution for the Pokémon series, blending the hallmarks of beloved past titles with innovative gameplay.

According to Game Freak, the developer aimed to “deliver an experience infused with new action and RPG elements that go beyond the framework established thus far, while honoring the core gameplay of past Pokémon titles.” Players assume the role of a Galaxy Expedition Team member, embarking on a pioneering journey across the vast Hisui region—an ancient version of what fans recognize today as the Sinnoh region.

Jubilife Village serves as your primary base of operations, from which you embark on missions and research requests that challenge your Pokémon skills while contributing to the region’s first Pokédex. Throughout Pokémon Legends: Arceus, players utilize base camps as crucial outposts.

Here, they can restore the health of their Pokémon, craft items using available resources, or simply rest between expeditions.

Progression is tied to the completion of research tasks and the fulfillment of assignments, leading to rank increases within the Galaxy Team.

As you traverse the diverse biomes and interact with the region’s inhabitants—both human and Pokémon—fans can look forward to meeting a variety of new and familiar species, as well as uncovering more mysteries of the Hisui region. Pokémon Legends: Arceus is poised to redefine the series with its adventurous gameplay and deep lore, making its January 28, 2022 release a significant event for Nintendo Switch owners and long-standing Pokémon fans alike.

With the introduction of Kleavor and the rich backstory of Scyther’s evolution, Game Freak and The Pokémon Company International continue to expand the boundaries of the beloved Pokémon world.
