Pokémon Scarlet and Violet: How to Defeat 7-Star Goodra Tera Raid – Strategies and Best Pokémon

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, the latest entries in the long-standing RPG franchise developed by Game Freak and published by Nintendo, continue to engage the global player community with fresh challenges and robust post-launch content.

Available exclusively for the Nintendo Switch, these titles have introduced a new gameplay mechanic: Tera Raids.

Over the weekend, trainers are being put to the test as the highly anticipated 7-Star Tera Raid featuring a Water Tera-Type Goodra with the Mightiest Mark rolls out, creating a competitive atmosphere among dedicated players. The Goodra Tera Raid Event offers substantial in-game rewards—such as Vitamins, Rare Candies, Ability Patches, and the sought-after Herba Mystica—making a successful raid completion highly desirable.

To participate, trainers must first fulfill specific prerequisites: complete the main storyline and see the end credits, emerge victorious in all Gym rematches, conquer the Academy Ace Tournament, and clear at least ten 4-Star or higher raids.

Once qualified, the 7-Star Raid icon will be visible both in the overworld and on the Tera Raid board, allowing access to this limited-time, high-difficulty challenge. The 7-Star Goodra presents a unique set of offensive capabilities.

As a Water Tera-Type, it bolsters its Dragon- and Water-type move damage; however, this also exposes it to Electric- and Grass-type moves.

Notably, Goodra’s Sap Sipper Ability converts Grass-type attacks into an Attack stat boost, which can pose a strategic hurdle.

Among the moves at its disposal are Scald (Water-type, with a chance to inflict burn), Dragon Pulse (Dragon-type), Sludge Bomb and Sludge Wave (Poison-type, with potential to poison opponents), Earthquake (Ground-type), and Surf (Water-type, targets all opponents).

Goodra’s battle script includes the deployment of Sludge Wave at the outset, timely activation of a Tera Energy Shield, multiple resets of player stats and status, as well as deploying powerful area-of-effect attacks like Earthquake and Surf at critical health thresholds. To maximize the odds of conquering this raid, trainers should field Level 100 Pokémon and carefully tailor their stat spreads using Vitamins.

Pokémon with resistances to Water, Dragon, Poison, and Ground moves are recommended, as repeated knockouts reduce the battle timer significantly.

In addition, trainers can boost their team’s resilience or attack power by employing Cheers—Go For It! (Attack boost), Hang Tough! (Defense boost), and Heal Up! (Restores health and cures status conditions). Three Pokémon stand out as top contenders: 1.

Bellibolt: This Electric-type resists the majority of Goodra’s attacks; its Electromorphosis Ability boosts Electric-type move power when hit.

Suggested strategy involves using Light Screen for team defense, Acid Spray to lower Goodra’s Special Defense, then Terastalizing and leaning on Parabolic Charge for sustained offense and healing.

Shell Bell is recommended for additional HP recovery. 2.

Eelektross: Immunity to Earthquake via Levitate and strong Electric-type offense make this Pokémon highly viable.

Opening with Gastro Acid disables Goodra’s Sap Sipper, allowing safe use of Grass-type moves.

Acid Spray and Discharge form the core offensive combo, with Giga Drain for self-healing support. 3.

Victreebel: With resistance to most of Goodra’s arsenal, Victreebel’s Gastro Acid similarly neutralizes Sap Sipper, enabling effective use of moves like Giga Drain and Strength Sap for offense and survivability.

Acid Spray ensures Goodra’s defenses stay low throughout the battle. The 7-Star Water Tera-Type Goodra event is available for a limited period via the Pokémon Scarlet and Violet in-game event system, accessible through the Nintendo Switch and the eShop.

Since its launch, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet have sold over 22 million copies worldwide, attesting to their enduring popularity and Game Freak’s success in iterating the franchise for a modern audience.
