Final Fantasy VII Revelation is presented as the concluding chapter of the VII Remake trilogy and is confirmed to launch on April 8, 2027 for Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, with Day One, Deluxe and Collector’s Editions available at launch.
Gameplay systems and FITS roles
The State of Play video breaks down the game’s new Function-Integrated Tactical Suitwear (FITS) system alongside existing mechanics such as Materia and the Synergy system first expanded in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth.
Revelation offers four FITS roles — Warrior, Knight, Black Mage and Summoner — each changing a character’s moveset and role in combat.
For example, Vincent’s Summoner FITS enhances his standard attacks and enables synergized actions tied to his Galian Beast transformation, while Cid’s Knight FITS emphasizes defense, ally protection and enemy aggro.
The presentation also confirmed an expanded Synergy system, showing new collaborative attacks such as a combined technique between Cid and Yuffie.
Piko, Ruby Weapon and Highwind navigation
Early access to the Highwind airship is a core pillar of Revelation’s open navigation.
The presenter explained that the Highwind is not only a transport option but also functions as the player’s base, and it will evolve subtly over the course of the adventure.
Players can switch between any character at will while exploring or in combat.
The trailer opens with the party, led by Cid, parachuting from the Highwind to confront the giant Ruby Weapon.
The team also gains a Chocobo steed named Piko, which can perform an Air Dash to traverse the skies, be ridden for fast movement, and be used directly in combat.
The narration states Piko will grow stronger alongside the party as they progress.
New areas, traversal and side content
Revelation introduces new locations, including Wutai — depicted as a culturally distinct nation with rising tensions against Shinra — and Rocket Town.
The footage shows Yuffie using a grappling gun to move quickly across rooftops and scale structures, illustrating vertical traversal options.
Areas visited become fast-travel points, sidequests return with character-dependent variations, and cutscenes now include a fast-forward option.
Queen's Blood card game and side activities
The trailer details Queen’s Blood, a tactical card game in which two players battle for board control and point advantage.
The narration makes clear the mode is easy to learn but houses deeper strategic layers for dedicated players.
Red XIII is shown undertaking a Queen’s Blood-focused adventure against opponents with distinct abilities.
Final Fantasy VII Revelation’s State of Play showcase reinforces Square Enix’s focus on layered combat, flexible traversal and varied side content as the title approaches its April 8, 2027 release across current and next-gen platforms.
