The dedicated translation group responsible for localizing Sakura Wars 2 into English has launched a new fan project centered on Macross: Do You Remember Love?, the classic side-scrolling shooter based on the legendary Super Dimension Fortress Macross anime franchise.
This effort aims to bring the 1984 film's acclaimed video game adaptation, which originally released on the Sega Saturn and PlayStation in 1997 and 1999 exclusively in Japan, to a wider audience with an English-language experience.
Spearheading this initiative, lead team member @burntends2 confirmed that the fan translation of Macross: Do You Remember Love? is now in active development.
Notably, industry veteran and former Nintendo Life staffer Jon Cartwright is set to join the project, providing his vocal talent to portray the iconic character Roy Fokker.
Cartwright, known for his passionate contributions to gaming media, brings a significant presence to the English dub efforts.
The translation team is currently seeking additional voice actors, with particular interest in female singers to honor the game's musical roots—a well-known hallmark of the Macross franchise.
Music plays a pivotal narrative and emotional role in both Macross and its adaptations, making these casting choices crucial for maintaining authenticity in the English version.
For those unfamiliar, Macross is a cultural phenomenon in Japan and served as the foundation for the North American animated series Robotech.
Robotech combined Macross with two other unrelated anime series—Super Dimension Cavalry Southern Cross and Genesis Climber MOSPEADA—to create a television-ready episode count for U.S.
syndication.
Since its original broadcast, Macross has remained active in Japan with ongoing series and games, while Robotech has continued to generate new movies and game releases since the 1980s.
The original Macross: Do You Remember Love? movie, released in 1984, reimagined the events of the first Macross television series with newly animated sequences and a compelling narrative.
These elements were seamlessly adapted into the side-scrolling shooter, making the game's localization a noteworthy milestone for English-speaking fans of both the anime and classic gaming communities.
This new translation project underscores the continuing efforts of passionate fans and experts to preserve and celebrate classic Japanese games on platforms like the PlayStation and Sega Saturn.
As the project progresses, fans can anticipate more updates, with the addition of Jon Cartwright reaffirming the team's commitment to quality and authenticity.
