TACS Classic Collection launches on Nintendo Switch — Thomas Hopper anthology arrives on eShop

TACS Classic Collection releases on Nintendo Switch today, bringing a decade-old corner of indie gaming back to modern hardware.

Published by Rock It Games, the digital anthology collects ten titles from developer Thomas Hopper — many originally published on Sony’s PlayStation Mobile service — and is available on the Nintendo eShop for $9.99.

Background

PlayStation Mobile launched in 2012 as Sony’s platform for indie and experimental developers, distributing games to Android devices, PlayStation Vita, and PlayStation TV.

The service shut down in 2015, leaving several small but inventive projects unavailable.

TACS Classic Collection restores Hopper’s PlayStation Mobile-era work, marking the first time many of these originals have been playable in more than ten years.

What’s included

TACS Classic Collection bundles ten Hopper games, each presented with descriptions and features pulled from the release notes:

- Console Saga — A retro-hybrid platformer that blends swinging-platform mechanics with shooter action and large 3D boss encounters as players travel through TV-themed levels.

- Out of Mind — A retro-style platformer that sends players into the depths of a human mind, featuring persistent power-ups and collectible-driven backtracking.

- Radiant Flux — A wave-based retro shooter notable for its heavy laser action and a distinctive color-shifting visual effect.

- Super Brain Eat 3 — A puzzle-platform experience where a red sphere consumes brains while navigating traps across multiple level packs.

- Shuttle Quest 2000 — A procedural space action roguelike in a four-color retro palette, offering extensive weapon crafting and large boss battles.

- Sea Run — A minimalist endless runner with a retro aesthetic, featuring umbrella-assisted jumps and quick-dodge mechanics.

- Super Skull Smash GO! — A coin-collection action game set in a city of skulls and monsters, with hidden endings tied to full coin completion.

- Super Tank Poker — A tactical, card-driven tank combat game that combines positioning with poker-style hand management.

- Meltdown Moon — An unusual puzzle game offering two modes that challenge players to learn and master its mechanics.

- King Bean — A platform-puzzle title that tasks players with collecting beans while minimizing moves.

Developer perspective

Hopper framed the anthology as a consolidation of a formative creative period, saying the collection represents a time of experimentation and discovery in his development career and that he’s pleased to see the games restored and playable on modern hardware.
