AYANEO has confirmed a Famicom-colourway variant of its Pocket Micro handheld will arrive in 2025, extending the device’s lineup with a paint scheme that echoes Nintendo’s classic Famicom and the Japan-only Game Boy Micro Famicom edition.

The Pocket Micro is an ultra-compact Android handheld designed for retro emulation and mobile gaming, and the new colourway underscores AYANEO’s focus on nostalgia-driven hardware design.

When we reviewed the Pocket Micro in August 2024, we noted its strong aesthetic and compact engineering.

In journalistic terms, the device impressed for its premium look and travel-friendly form factor; the review concluded that the Pocket Micro's build and slim profile provide an immediately positive impression.

Regarding performance, the review found that the MediaTek Helio G99 SoC delivers capable emulation through systems up to the Dreamcast generation but begins to show limits beyond that era, meaning higher-end Android rivals can outperform it on more demanding titles.

The review also observed that the Pocket Micro is competent as an emulation-focused platform while still able to run many AAA Android games.

AYANEO’s Pocket Micro is offered in two main configurations: a 6GB RAM / 128GB storage model that retails at approximately $219 / £167, and an 8GB RAM / 256GB storage model priced around $279 / £190.

Those price points position the Pocket Micro as an affordable entry in the niche of handheld Android emulation devices, with the new Famicom-inspired finish likely aimed at collectors and fans of retro Nintendo hardware.

The announcement ties into broader interest in retro-themed hardware and special editions from both third-party manufacturers and Nintendo itself — for example, the Game Boy Micro Famicom edition remains a Japan-only collector’s item.

While the Pocket Micro runs Android rather than Nintendo’s platforms like the Nintendo Switch and does not appear in Nintendo Direct presentations or the Nintendo eShop, its Famicom styling reflects the enduring influence of Nintendo’s legacy designs on portable gaming aesthetics.

AYANEO has confirmed the 2025 launch of the Famicom colourway; further specifics such as exact release date and regional availability are expected from the company as the year approaches.
