Pokémon Pokopia Developer Island Tour Reveals Creative Gameplay on Nintendo Switch 2

The Pokémon Company International has unveiled a brand new "Developer Island Tour" video for Pokémon Pokopia, ahead of the game’s highly anticipated launch on Nintendo Switch 2.

The latest installment in the long-running Pokémon franchise, Pokémon Pokopia expands the series’ creative possibilities, inviting players to craft their own Pokémon haven with unprecedented freedom. The nine-minute Developer Island Tour video features key members of the development team, including Kanako Murata from The Pokémon Company, Game Freak’s Shigeru Ohmori, and Koei Tecmo Games’ Takuto Edagawa and Marina Ayano.

During this showcase, each developer provides an in-depth look at their personalized island creations, highlighting the wide range of customization options available in Pokémon Pokopia. Among the creations revealed are a secluded Ghost-type Gym, a home skillfully carved into the mountainside featuring automated amenities and secret musical spaces, and a challenging beachside puzzle room that relies on inter-Pokémon cooperation to solve.

The developers demonstrate how the game empowers players to unleash their imagination, emphasizing collaborative and player-driven design. Pokémon Pokopia is a collaborative effort between Game Freak—the studio behind the core Pokémon titles—and Koei Tecmo Games, known for their expertise in life simulation and adventure gaming.

The title stars Ditto, a familiar Pokémon who assumes a human form and embarks on a journey to establish a community alongside other Pokémon.

Players can explore the open world, learn signature moves from befriended Pokémon—such as using Bulbasaur’s Leafage to foster plant growth or Squirtle’s Water Gun to rejuvenate the environment—and use these abilities to enhance their customizable island. Further enriching the gameplay loop, users can gather materials, craft furniture, grow crops, and construct homes to foster a warm, slow-paced lifestyle with their Pokémon companions.

Over time, these efforts allow players to develop their own thriving town, welcoming both visiting players and Pokémon.

Real-time mechanics—including a dynamic day-night cycle synced to actual time and changing weather conditions—add depth and immersion, while distinct in-game locations offer unique opportunities for discovery. Pokémon Pokopia is set to launch globally both at retail and via the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch 2 on March 5, 2026.

With its imaginative sandbox features and collaborative development pedigree, the game is poised to become a standout release in the new era of Nintendo’s hardware ecosystem.
