The title, developed by Good-Feel and overseen by Nintendo producers including Hisashi Nogami, Etsunobu Ebisu and director Masahiro Yamamoto, was adjusted during development to take advantage of the Switch 2’s increased performance.
Developers said this shift allowed them to better realize the game’s original design goals.
In the interview, Yamamoto said the team’s core design approach did not change with the move to the new hardware, but the performance headroom made certain ambitions possible.
He explained that the Switch 2 allowed the team to create visuals that better matched the game’s encyclopedia-inspired aesthetic and to lift practical limits on the number of individual creatures rendered at once.
Producer Hisashi Nogami added that creatures designed to multiply — like the Scatterpuffs — could be increased repeatedly without the same technical concerns they had on the original Switch.
Project senior producer Etsunobu Ebisu and the rest of the team framed the hardware transition as an enabler rather than a redesign.
Yamamoto noted that the team could deliver stronger moments of surprise and scale; he used the large creature Thudd as an example, explaining that its size and behaviors — including swallowing Yoshi and inhaling water — were easier to realize on more capable hardware.
Nogami emphasized the studio’s emphasis on visuals, saying the art direction for the encyclopedia world benefited notably from the Switch 2’s capabilities.
Good-Feel, known for its work on past Yoshi entries, has repeatedly focused on tactile, visually distinctive platforming, and the team told Nintendo Dream that the new hardware helped them preserve that identity while expanding on scale and graphical detail.
Developers also joked that when in doubt, creating something big often produces the intended impact — a creative instinct the Switch 2 made simpler to execute.
The switch in platforms highlights how next-generation hardware can affect scope and presentation without altering a team’s fundamental design intent.
