Coffee Stain Publishing and developer Iron Gate have announced a full release plan for Valheim, the Viking-themed survival game that became a breakout hit in Early Access.
Valheim launched in Steam Early Access in February 2021 and established itself as one of the most-discussed survival titles on PC.
The studio and publisher say the game will leave Early Access and move to a wider console rollout, with a slated release date of September 9, 2026 for Nintendo Switch 2 and other platforms as part of the 1.0 transition.
In the announcement, Coffee Stain Publishing and Iron Gate confirmed that Valheim will expand beyond PC, Mac and Linux to ship on current and next-generation consoles.
The companies stated that, at full release, Valheim will support cross-play across platforms so players can continue to co-op and share worlds regardless of hardware.
The update also details Valheim's final biome, the Deep North.
According to the announcement, Deep North is a cold, remote region that initially greets players with brutal snowstorms before revealing frozen mesas, abandoned villages and deeply buried threats.
Iron Gate described the Deep North as a place where old wars and vanished settlements hide ramped-up dangers for late-game explorers.
The developer's description rewritten for clarity: when players arrive in the Deep North they may first encounter fierce blizzards that clear to expose silent, snowbound landscapes and deserted communities.
As exploration continues, players will find evidence that other Vikings came before them—and that older, more dangerous creatures now call the area home.
The announcement named Gammeltrolls as ancient, giant guardians of the north and cited subterranean foes called Elakingar that tunnel beneath the surface and ambush unwary travelers.
Valheim's trajectory from Steam Early Access to a planned 1.0 console release follows a history of steady updates and community-driven development from Iron Gate.
The title remains available on Steam for PC, and players can expect the expanded platform list and cross-play functionality to arrive alongside the full release.
Stay tuned for official storefront listings on the Nintendo eShop and platform-specific launch windows as publishers and platform holders publish further details.
