Valheim Announced for Nintendo Switch 2: Survival Hit Brings Full Cross-Play and HD Rumble 2 to New Console

Coffee Stain Publishing has officially confirmed that Valheim, the acclaimed multiplayer survival game developed by Iron Gate, is heading to Nintendo Switch 2.

This announcement was made during this week’s Nintendo Direct: Partner Showcase, generating excitement among fans eager to see the hit title on Nintendo’s upcoming hardware. Valheim, renowned for its challenging survival mechanics and immersive Norse mythology-inspired world, will take full advantage of the capabilities of Nintendo Switch 2.

The release is set to include robust features such as comprehensive cross-play between all available platforms, intuitive touchscreen menu navigation, advanced haptic feedback through HD Rumble 2, and precision gyroscope aiming.

These enhancements are designed to deliver a seamless and responsive experience for both new and returning players. Set within a vast procedurally-generated purgatory rooted in Viking lore, Valheim offers an expansive world for up to 10 players to explore, battle, and build.

Since its Early Access debut on Steam in February 2021, Valheim has seen sustained popularity, fueled by three major and multiple smaller content updates.

These updates have continuously enriched the game’s universe with new biomes, weapons, armor, and building materials.

By launch, the Nintendo Switch 2 version will feature eight fully developed biomes, including the mystical Mistlands, the treacherous Ashlands, and the enigmatic Deep North, providing a variety of environments and challenges. Highlighting Valheim’s appeal, Coffee Stain Publishing outlined several key gameplay features for the Nintendo Switch 2 version: - A massive procedurally-generated world, ensuring that every biome offers unique enemies, resources, and crafting opportunities. - Multiplayer support for up to 10 players, with unlimited world creation on player-hosted dedicated servers and dynamic challenge scaling. - Skill-based, stamina-focused combat featuring diverse weapon types, tactical blocking, dodging, parries, and ranged attacks. - A rewarding food system where different meals provide health, stamina, and regeneration bonuses, but lack of food is not punitive. - An intuitive crafting system, with recipes and ingredients discovered organically through exploration. - Flexible building mechanics that account for structural integrity and ventilation, allowing players to customize shelters, villages, and outposts. - The ability to sail vessels across oceans, uncovering new lands and facing formidable sea monsters. - Challenging boss battles that reward strategy, preparation, and teamwork. Valheim is scheduled for a digital release on the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch 2 worldwide in 2026, marking another major milestone for both Coffee Stain Publishing and Iron Gate as they expand their hit title to a new generation of Nintendo hardware.
