Nintendo Switch 2 has officially become the fastest-selling video game console in history, according to new data released by US sales tracker Circana.

The landmark achievement was announced following the console's stellar performance in June 2025, as the Nintendo Switch 2 outpaced both the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S to lead U.S.

hardware sales for the month. The Nintendo Switch 2, launched earlier in 2025, has seen a remarkable debut, continuing Nintendo's strong legacy in the gaming hardware market.

The system, which offers upgraded hardware capabilities and expanded third-party support, appeals to a wide base of players.

June 2025's hardware sales data highlights the continued vitality of Nintendo’s presence in the market and signals robust consumer demand for the newest addition to the Nintendo Switch family. Circana’s reporting positioned the PlayStation 5 in second place and the Xbox Series X|S in third for June 2025 hardware sales.

In addition, Nintendo’s software also performed impressively.

Mario Kart World, an eagerly anticipated new entry in the long-running racing franchise, debuted as the third best-selling video game in the U.S.

for the month, just behind Bandai Namco Entertainment’s ‘Elden Ring: Nightreign’ in the top spot and Sony’s ‘Death Stranding 2: On the Beach’ at number two. A spokesperson from Circana offered this analysis on the Switch 2’s launch performance, stating that high launch sales primarily highlight Nintendo's preparations and distribution capabilities.

The volume of Switch 2 consoles available at launch suggests the company had significant confidence in both the system and its supply chain partners.

It is important to note that, historically, the scale of a console’s initial sales does not always indicate its long-term success—some platforms with modest starts, like the PlayStation 2, ended up with record-setting lifetime sales.

However, having the largest launch month for any video game hardware platform marks a strong beginning for Nintendo Switch 2. Beyond hardware, June's software charts showcase the breadth of consumer interest in gaming’s leading franchises and new releases across platforms like Nintendo eShop, PlayStation, Xbox, and PC.

The top ten best-sellers included ‘Elden Ring: Nightreign’ by Bandai Namco Entertainment, ‘Death Stranding 2: On the Beach’ from Sony, 'Mario Kart World’ by Nintendo, ‘Call of Duty: Black Ops 6’ by Microsoft, and others like ‘Stellar Blade’ and ‘Forza Horizon 5.’ With the Nintendo Switch 2’s record-breaking start, along with the strong performance of its flagship titles like Mario Kart World, Nintendo reaffirms its central role in the dynamic landscape of gaming hardware and software.

As the year continues, industry watchers will be keen to see how sustained demand and future releases further shape the platform’s legacy.
