Description

Nintendo Switch 2 unit sales have achieved a significant milestone in the United States, outperforming the original Nintendo Switch by a considerable margin, according to a recent report from Circana, the official video game sales tracker for the US market.

Launched earlier this year, the Nintendo Switch 2 has quickly become a top-selling platform, reflecting both strong consumer demand and improved hardware availability compared to its predecessor. Circana's latest data, released in conjunction with the August 2025 Top 20 Best-Selling Games list, highlights that Nintendo Switch 2 sales are trending 77% ahead of the time-aligned sales of the first Nintendo Switch.

This performance marks a notable achievement for Nintendo, positioning the Switch 2 as one of the fastest-rising consoles in recent US gaming history.

However, Circana also clarified that the original Switch at launch experienced supply constraints in the US, while the Nintendo Switch 2 has benefited from a more robust stock and broader retail availability, making it significantly easier for customers to purchase the new hardware. August 2025 also brought an exciting roster of new game releases and strong franchise performances.

The month’s best-selling title was Take-Two Interactive’s NBA 2K26, followed closely by Electronic Arts’ Madden NFL 26 and Mafia: The Old Country, another Take-Two release.

Konami Digital Entertainment's highly anticipated Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater debuted strong, while new entries like Gears of War: Reloaded from Microsoft made significant impressions on the charts. For Nintendo, its first-party title Donkey Kong Bananza performed well, securing a spot among the top ten best-selling games for August.

This further demonstrates the enduring appeal of Nintendo's signature franchises and the synergy between compelling software and successful hardware launches on the Nintendo Switch 2. The strong sales momentum of the Nintendo Switch 2 builds on Nintendo's reputation for delivering hit hardware and exclusive software.

Since the debut of the original Nintendo Switch in March 2017, Nintendo has sold more than 132 million units globally, with a library of exclusive games drawing players across all ages.

Nintendo Switch 2’s launch, supported by a timely supply chain and a slate of high-profile titles on the Nintendo eShop, has set new benchmarks for the company in the US market. As Circana continues to track US gaming hardware and software trends, all indicators point to a promising trajectory for the Nintendo Switch 2, signaling a robust new chapter in Nintendo's storied console legacy.
