Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake Receives New Release Window Following Ubisoft Update

Ubisoft has officially provided a long-awaited update regarding the development of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake, following a period of relative silence.

The project, initially announced in 2020, has faced multiple delays as Ubisoft reevaluates the timelines for several of its major franchises, striving to enhance overall product quality across its portfolio.

During its latest earnings call, the company outlined a refined release window for the anticipated remake, now targeting the current financial year ending March 2026. This decisive move arrives on the heels of similar actions for other high-profile Ubisoft productions.

Notably, the publisher granted additional development time to Assassin’s Creed Shadows, a decision that reportedly improved the final experience.

In an official statement, Ubisoft explained, “After conducting a thorough internal review from October to December, the company decided to allocate extra development resources to several major projects, aiming to foster the conditions necessary for success.

This strategy has already delivered visible benefits to the quality of Assassin’s Creed Shadows.” Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake has been a subject of industry discussion since its reveal over three years ago.

While the original game became a classic on platforms including the Nintendo GameCube, details about supported platforms for this new version remain unconfirmed.

Earlier reports referenced the possibility of a Nintendo Switch release, but Ubisoft has yet to offer official confirmation. Development on the project was reinforced last year, as Ubisoft Toronto was added to the development team, aiming to leverage additional expertise in bringing the beloved classic to a modern audience.

The last mainline Prince of Persia game to appear on a Nintendo system was Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, which launched in January 2023 for the Nintendo Switch.

However, the development team responsible for that project was ultimately disbanded after a difficult fiscal year for Ubisoft. Ubisoft has also taken notable steps to strengthen its portfolio, recently announcing a new joint venture with Tencent focused on several key intellectual properties.

This commitment to collaboration and quality control is reflected in the extended timelines for major releases like Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake.
