Ubisoft has officially announced that Star Wars Outlaws will be released on Nintendo Switch 2 this September, marking a significant milestone in the eagerly anticipated collaboration between Ubisoft and Lucasfilm Games.
The open-world Star Wars adventure will be available on the new Nintendo hardware starting September 4, 2025, joining PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC platforms.
Star Wars Outlaws, developed by Ubisoft Massive, invites players into the criminal underworld of the Star Wars galaxy as Kay Vess, a cunning scoundrel accompanied by her loyal companion, Nix.
The game has gained attention for its ambitious scope, detailed environments, and unique story that expands the Star Wars narrative.
Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot recently expressed optimism that the Switch 2 release could revitalize interest in the title and strengthen its position in the market.
In a noteworthy development, Tom Henderson of Insider Gaming revealed on the outlet's weekly podcast that a Star Wars Outlaws sequel was initially on Ubisoft's roadmap.
Henderson stated that the follow-up project had been in the very early planning stages but did not reach production and has since been canceled.
"Ubisoft had also recently decided to pull the plug on Star Wars Outlaws 2, which, while planned, never officially entered active development," Henderson noted.
This confirmation ends speculation about the future of Kay Vess and Nix within the franchise.
Despite Ubisoft’s efforts to expand the Star Wars Outlaws universe, the company's recent financial performance has been mixed.
Several high-profile projects, including Assassin's Creed Shadows and others, have experienced delays, while others have failed to meet commercial expectations.
Ubisoft’s move to launch Star Wars Outlaws on the Nintendo Switch 2 is seen as a strategic effort to broaden the game's reach and appeal to a larger audience through Nintendo’s upgraded hardware.
Star Wars Outlaws will be available worldwide on Nintendo Switch 2 starting September 4, 2025.
Ubisoft has not released further details regarding the canceled sequel, but the company continues to focus on delivering premiere experiences for the Switch 2 eShop and beyond.
As new information emerges, fans and industry observers alike remain attentive to Ubisoft’s ongoing initiatives within the Star Wars universe.
