Rayman Legends Retold: Ubisoft Milan's 3D Remake Heading to Nintendo Switch 2 on October 1, 2026

Ubisoft Milan is remaking the acclaimed 2013 platformer Rayman Legends as Rayman Legends Retold, a 2.5D/3D reimagining set to launch for Nintendo Switch 2 on October 1, 2026.

The original Rayman Legends earned praise for its distinctive art style and tight platforming, and the remake aims to preserve its gameplay strengths while expanding the title's world and narrative scope.

In an interview with Nintendo Everything, Ubisoft Milan production director Alessandro Arndt Mucchi and realization/animation director Marco Renso explained why the team chose Legends as the foundation for the series' next chapter.

Mucchi said the studio viewed Legends as the best starting point to "rebuild the future of Rayman," citing the original's robust gameplay and the opportunity to deepen the game's world-building and lore.

He noted that while Rayman Legends offered a diverse look at the Glade of Dreams, its original story structure felt fragmented—an issue the remake intends to address by tying elements together and retelling the narrative in a more cohesive way.

Renso described the technical and creative advantages of moving to 3D.

He explained that 3D presentation allows the team to enhance immersion in the Glade of Dreams, manipulate level perspective, "bend" environments in ways not possible in the original, and make characters feel more expressive in both gameplay and cutscenes.

According to Renso, these changes are designed to deliver a stronger sense of adventure while remaining faithful to the spirit of the source material.

Rayman Legends Retold is being developed by Ubisoft Milan and published by Ubisoft.

The remake maintains the core platforming DNA of Rayman Legends while reworking level presentation and story delivery for a modern console audience on Nintendo Switch 2.

With the October 1, 2026 release date now confirmed, industry observers and fans of the franchise will be watching how the remake balances technical updates with the celebrated design that made the 2013 original a critical success.

For readers following the release, Ubisoft and Ubisoft Milan have positioned Rayman Legends Retold as a deliberate step toward the franchise's future, focusing on both gameplay fidelity and expanded world-building.
