Super Mario Galaxy Movie Second Trailer Debuts During Nintendo Direct: Yoshi and Baby Mario Highlighted

Nintendo has officially premiered the second trailer for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie during a highly anticipated Nintendo Direct broadcast, further fueling excitement among fans ahead of the film’s global theatrical release on April 1, 2026.

As one of the most celebrated franchises in Nintendo’s extensive portfolio, Super Mario Galaxy’s transition from a critically acclaimed Nintendo Switch and Wii game to a feature film marks another milestone for the iconic brand. The newly released trailer prominently features Yoshi, a beloved character integral to the Mario universe but curiously absent from the film's first preview.

Nintendo addressed anticipation around his introduction by putting Yoshi front and center in the latest footage, confirming earlier reports of his involvement.

Alongside this, viewers are treated to dynamic glimpses of Baby Mario and Baby Luigi, making their movie adaptation debut.

These characters, long favorites from the games, add nostalgic appeal and expand the film’s cast of classic Nintendo personalities. Nintendo’s creative team has also highlighted the inclusion of fan-favorite elements like the Frog power-up, visually reimagined for the big screen.

The trailer flashes scenes echoing the gravity-bending platforming and whimsical environments that defined Super Mario Galaxy on the Wii and later on the Nintendo Switch, maintaining authenticity for longtime players. Shigeru Miyamoto, a key architect of the Mario franchise, previously emphasized the importance of staying true to the spirit of the games while developing this movie.

In prepared remarks during a previous Nintendo Direct, Miyamoto summarized Nintendo’s mission: "We aim to capture the magic and imagination of the Super Mario Galaxy experience and introduce these beloved characters to a broad, new audience." The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is directed by a veteran anime filmmaker with collaboration between Nintendo and several industry-leading animation studios.

The project continues Nintendo’s multi-media expansion following 2023’s successful release of The Super Mario Bros.

Movie, which achieved record-breaking box office numbers and became one of the highest-grossing animated films of its year. Tickets for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie will be available in early 2026, both through theater partners and the Nintendo eShop for special promotional materials.

With momentum building from the Nintendo Direct reveal and the promise of more trailers to come, fans can expect The Super Mario Galaxy Movie to be a major cinematic event for Nintendo devotees and newcomers alike.
