The announcement continues Capcom’s ongoing stewardship of the Mega Man franchise and arrives with a trailer that showcases new characters and systems aimed at veteran fans and newcomers alike.
In the reveal, Capcom described Tank Man as the facility manager responsible for oil storage who, driven by a desire for recognition, seizes control of the oil storage facility.
The trailer centers Tank Man’s stage around oil-based hazards and mechanical defenses, giving players a look at the Robot Master’s design and attack patterns.
Proto Man returns as a playable character alongside Mega Man.
Capcom confirmed Proto Man brings his own unique move set and distinct playstyle, offering players multiple approaches to stages and boss encounters.
The reveal also highlighted two of Dual Override’s headline systems:
- Override system: Capcom explained the Override mechanic allows characters to temporarily access a burst of power beyond their normal capabilities.
That temporary boost is balanced by a post-Override performance penalty when the effect ends, making timing and tactical use of Override an integral part of high-level play.
- Custom Chip system: A new personalization layer enables players to install Custom Chips to modify Mega Man and Proto Man.
Confirmed chip examples include rapid-fire, a protective shield bubble, and a hover ability, allowing players to experiment with combinations to tailor their strategies.
Among the eight new Robot Masters revealed so far is Twinkle Girl, an energetic opponent who uses firework-themed attacks.
The trailer also includes a brief on-screen moment showcasing a Robot Master resembling Astro Man from Mega Man 8, providing a nod to long-running series history.
Capcom reiterated that special weapons derived from defeated Robot Masters remain a core feature; these weapons deliver powerful effects but consume energy, requiring tactical usage.
The studio confirmed the title will arrive on Nintendo Switch and the forthcoming Nintendo Switch 2 in 2027.
Details on digital storefront availability, including Nintendo eShop listing and pricing, were not disclosed in the initial reveal.
The Tank Man trailer offers the first close look at this new boss and the expanded systems players can expect when Mega Man: Dual Override launches next year.
