Nintendo kicked off its latest Nintendo Direct with a major announcement for fans of Mario and animated adaptations—the first look at The Super Mario Galaxy Movie.
Confirming earlier rumors sparked by recent domain registrations, Nintendo has officially titled its next cinematic project after the beloved Super Mario Galaxy series.
The announcement included a globe-spanning teaser trailer that set social media abuzz and gave a glimpse of the stunning intergalactic adventure ahead.
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is being produced in partnership with animation studio Illumination, the creative force behind blockbusters such as The Super Mario Bros.
Movie and the Despicable Me series.
Drawing direct inspiration from the critically acclaimed Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2 games, this new feature film aims to capture the cosmic scale, imaginative environments, and inventive gameplay that made the Nintendo Switch and Wii titles standout hits for the Mario franchise.
While Nintendo did not reveal specific plot details during the presentation, the company confirmed that the core cast from the previous film is making a return.
Chris Pratt will reprise his role as Mario, with key characters such as Luigi, Princess Peach, Bowser, Toad, and Kamek once again alongside him for the series’ next cinematic journey.
Charles Martinet, the longtime voice of Mario in Nintendo games, is expected to continue providing character guidance and support.
Nintendo’s official statement emphasized the significance of this adaptation, noting, "We are proud to expand the Super Mario Galaxy universe on the big screen, bringing the magic of Mario’s galactic adventures to both dedicated fans and new audiences alike." With over 29 million units sold worldwide across the Super Mario Galaxy entries and Super Mario Bros.

Scheduled for release in Spring 2026, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is poised to become one of Nintendo’s most important entertainment launches of the decade.
