Nalua Studio has released the first trailer for Gley Lancer: Overdrive, a reimagining of NCS Corp and Masaya’s 1992 shooter Gley Lancer tailored for Neo Geo hardware and modern platforms including PlayStation, Nintendo Switch, Xbox and Steam.
The announcement follows wider re-releases of the original Mega Drive title in recent years and arrives from the developer known for Necro Pop and Vengeance Hunters.

Gley Lancer originally debuted on Sega’s 16-bit Mega Drive in 1992 and was initially released in Japan and Korea without an official Western launch.
The original title later reached a broader audience after Ratalaika Games published ports for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S in October 2021.
In 2023, Retro-Bit released a cartridge edition for the Sega Mega Drive/Genesis; that release was reported to have reused fan translator MIJET’s work without permission.
Developer intent and design philosophy
In the trailer’s accompanying description, Nalua Studio explained its development approach for Overdrive.
The studio said it treated the project as if it had received the original design documents, artwork and story concepts for Gley Lancer and had been asked to create a parallel version specifically for Neo Geo hardware.
Nalua described this as an exercise in channeling the 1990s practice where different teams produced similar but distinct versions of a game for the platforms they specialized in.
The studio added that Gley Lancer: Overdrive aims to honor the Mega Drive original while introducing Neo Geo-style changes to stages, presentation, sound effects, soundtrack, mechanics and cinematics.

The game’s premise centers on Federation Navy pilot Lucia Cabrock, who takes the prototype Advanced Busterhawk Gley Lancer to investigate the disappearance of her father’s ship, the Oberon, after an encounter with an unknown alien force.
As of the trailer release, Nalua Studio has not announced a release date, and the game’s Steam page remains pending approval.
