Almost three years after Super Smash Bros.

Ultimate launched on Nintendo Switch, Nintendo and director Masahiro Sakurai confirmed that the game's roster is now complete with the addition of Sora from Kingdom Hearts.

Ultimate, released on December 7, 2018, has been updated steadily through downloadable content and Challenger Packs; Sora was revealed on October 5, 2021 and became playable in-game on October 18, 2021.

In a final "Masahiro Sakurai Presents" broadcast for Ultimate, Sakurai announced Sora as the last DLC fighter tied to Fighters Pass content.

In journalistic terms, Sakurai framed the presentation as his last public update for Super Smash Bros.

Ultimate, marking an official close to the long-running series of developer presentations for the game.

With Sora's addition, Ultimate retains its status as the largest roster in the franchise's history.
