Nintendo continues to celebrate major game releases by integrating special events into its mobile catalog, and the latest example coincides with today’s launch of Donkey Kong Bananza on the Nintendo Switch 2.
To mark the debut of this highly anticipated title, Nintendo has rolled out a limited-time event in Super Mario Run, the popular mobile platformer.
Super Mario Run, released globally in December 2016 and developed by Nintendo, has maintained a steady user base through consistent content updates and collaborations.
The latest crossover event between Super Mario Run and Donkey Kong Bananza exemplifies Nintendo’s continued strategy to bridge its console and mobile audiences.
In this new event, players can earn exclusive rewards by completing a variety of fresh missions.
The rewards include unique in-game statues that showcase the connection to Donkey Kong Bananza.
The first mission is easy: simply boot up Super Mario Run and visit your kingdom to claim your prize.
From there, additional missions challenge players to collect specific numbers of coins, defeat a set amount of enemies, and accomplish other in-game objectives.
In total, participants can fill out three different mission sheets—each leading to distinct collectible statues.
A Nintendo spokesperson commented on the event’s objectives, explaining that the company aims to "encourage new and returning players to log in and participate, enhancing engagement across platforms by tying console releases to mobile experiences."
This strategy isn’t new territory for Nintendo.
Over the past two years, Super Mario Run has hosted several collaborative events to coincide with noteworthy Nintendo Switch releases.
Past event crossovers have included Super Mario Party Jamboree, Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD, Super Mario Bros.
Wonder, Princess Peach: Showtime, Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, and Mario & Luigi: Brothership.
Each of these events offered time-limited missions and unique statues or decorations, helping refresh the mobile experience for players.
The Super Mario Run x Donkey Kong Bananza event runs through August 28, 2025, providing ample time for both new and veteran players to participate.
The recent launch of Donkey Kong Bananza on Nintendo Switch 2 marks another significant milestone for the franchise, and its collaborative event in Super Mario Run further demonstrates Nintendo’s commitment to cross-platform engagement.
Super Mario Run remains available on both iOS and Android devices, with all events accessible by simply updating to the latest version.
As Donkey Kong Bananza stakes its place in the modern Nintendo Switch 2 library, mobile players are invited to join in the celebration with fresh content and rewards.
