Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp Gold Points Redemption Issues Reported After Delayed Nintendo Switch Launch
Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp, developed by Nintendo and WayForward Technologies, was originally slated for release on Nintendo Switch in April 2022.
However, Nintendo postponed the highly anticipated strategy game indefinitely in response to global events, most notably the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
The title eventually launched worldwide in April 2023, to the delight of fans eager to experience the reimagined classics on current hardware via Nintendo Switch and the eShop.
Despite a successful launch, players have reported issues surrounding the ability to redeem My Nintendo Gold Points for Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp.
According to the Australian gaming publication Vooks, users attempting to claim Gold Points for their physical copies are receiving an error message stating, "You cannot collect My Nintendo points for this software as the expiry date has passed."
Multiple users on Reddit and other forums echoed these reports, highlighting failed Gold Points redemption attempts primarily in Australia, with scattered cases across additional territories.
However, there are exceptions—one member of the Nintendo Life team successfully redeemed 80 Gold Points from a physical copy of the game, suggesting the problem may not affect every unit.
Nintendo’s official support documentation helps shed light on the issue.
The company clearly outlines that My Nintendo Gold Points must be claimed within two years of a game's original release date for users in Europe and South Africa, while players in other regions have just one year from the game's debut to redeem points on the eShop or via a physical game card.
This policy implies that some physical cartridges of Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp may have been produced prior to the initial April 2022 launch window.
As a result, their Gold Points redemption periods could have lapsed by the time the game was finally released in 2023.
At present, there is no official confirmation from Nintendo regarding the exact cause of the discrepancy, nor a broad fix for impacted users.
Players affected are encouraged to review their region’s Gold Points redemption terms on Nintendo’s official support site and to contact customer service for assistance if they experience redemption issues.
Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp marks a significant return for a revered Nintendo franchise and is available exclusively for Nintendo Switch on the eShop and at retail.
As sales milestones for the game continue to climb post-launch, Nintendo, WayForward Technologies, and the larger community will be watching closely to ensure launch hiccups do not impact brand goodwill.
