Nintendo has officially brought an end to one of its most recognized loyalty features on the Nintendo Switch: earning My Nintendo Gold Points from eShop digital purchases.
This update follows a phased announcement schedule and impacts how Nintendo Switch users accumulate and redeem rewards through the Nintendo ecosystem.
Gold Points, part of the company’s broader My Nintendo Rewards program, have been a staple for fans since the Switch’s launch in 2017.
By purchasing digital titles via the Switch eShop, users automatically received 5% of the value back as Gold Points, which could then be applied as discounts toward future purchases.
This system offered consistent value, especially during big eShop sales hosted by publishers such as Square Enix.
However, as stated on Nintendo's official website and communicated through their customer support channels, "As of 9:30 PM PDT on March 24, 2025, it is no longer possible to earn My Nintendo Gold Points when purchasing digital content on the Switch eShop." Nintendo had provided reminders via social media and support pages leading up to the March deadline, ensuring users were aware of the final earning dates and transition plans.
The company emphasized that although Gold Points accrual for new digital purchases on Switch has concluded, players will still have the ability to redeem any existing Gold Points for up to 12 months from the date of earning.
This means that anyone with unspent Gold Points from March 2025 will retain redemption rights until March 2026.
Nintendo confirmed, "Gold Points may be redeemed for a period of up to 12 months following their acquisition, even after the program's earning period has ended."
It's important to note that while Gold Points are being phased out for Switch eShop purchases, Platinum Points—another reward tier—remain available and are unaffected by these changes.
Nintendo has stated its intention to continue offering other benefits through the broader My Nintendo Rewards program, thanking users for their continued support and engagement.
In a separate update, Nintendo indicated on its official Game Voucher website that Game Vouchers will not be valid for Switch 2 exclusive titles.
This follows ongoing communication from the company regarding rewards program updates as hardware and service plans evolve.
With this transition, Nintendo Switch users are encouraged to check their accounts and make plans for any remaining Gold Points to ensure they maximize rewards before expiration.
For detailed terms and the latest information, users can consult Nintendo’s support FAQ and verified announcements via Nintendo Direct and official social media channels.
The conclusion of Gold Points on the Nintendo Switch eShop marks the end of an era for the platform’s digital incentives, but Nintendo’s ongoing commitment to rewards and loyalty programs suggests players can continue to expect new features and benefits in the future.
