Gameloft has released a dedicated Nintendo Switch 2 Edition of its free-to-play racer Disney Speedstorm on the Nintendo eShop.

The new build targets Nintendo's next-generation handheld-console hardware with higher docked resolution and enhanced local multiplayer support while existing Switch owners can claim a free upgrade pack via the game's eShop page.

Background and release details

Disney Speedstorm first arrived on Nintendo Switch in 2023 as a free-to-play arcade racer from developer Gameloft.

The title has received ongoing seasonal updates since launch; last year Gameloft began rolling out a set of "Switch 2 improvements" for the game's Switch version that included visual upgrades and a 60fps option for Switch 2 hardware.

This week’s release formalizes that effort with a standalone Nintendo Switch 2 Edition available on the eShop.

What’s new in the Switch 2 Edition

According to Gameloft’s official announcement, the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition delivers a smoother experience and a higher docked resolution, specifically targeting 1440p when the console is docked.

The update also adds a four-player split-screen mode in Local Freeplay, expanding couch multiplayer options.

Existing Nintendo Switch users can update to the improved build via the free upgrade pack listed on the game's eShop page.

Publisher message and community invite

Gameloft framed the release as an invitation for players to return to the racer; in their announcement the studio encouraged fans to meet up in-game, effectively inviting players to "see you on the track." The studio’s messaging emphasizes both technical enhancements on Nintendo Switch 2 and the social, local-play focus introduced with the split-screen feature.

Context and reception

When Disney Speedstorm launched on the original Nintendo Switch in 2023, reviewers noted the game's design and content positively while calling out performance limitations on the platform.

The Switch 2 Edition aims to address those concerns for owners of Nintendo’s newer hardware by increasing frame-rate stability and visual fidelity.

The new edition is live now on the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch 2, with a free upgrade option for existing Switch users.
