Final Fantasy XIV on Switch 2: Free Subscription Period Ends September 7, 2026

Square Enix has issued a firm reminder to players that the temporary free subscription period for Final Fantasy XIV on Nintendo Switch 2 will conclude on September 7, 2026.

The company introduced the complimentary period to help ensure server stability following the game’s launch on the Switch 2 last month, and it has now communicated the precise schedule for transitioning players to standard subscription terms.

According to Square Enix’s support materials, the 30-day complimentary play period that accompanies registration of the Starter Edition or Complete Edition will commence on September 8, 2026.

Once that 30-day window expires, players will be required to pay a subscription fee in order to continue accessing the full service on Switch 2.

Square Enix directs players to its official FAQ for full details and the current subscription pricing for the Switch 2 version.

Square Enix has also confirmed that users who downloaded the Free Trial can continue to play the Free Trial at no cost.

The publisher’s support page clarifies that once a service account is upgraded from a Free Trial to a full service account on any platform, that account cannot be reverted to a Free Trial.

In other words, players who choose to upgrade should be aware that the account change is permanent under the company’s current policy.

Square Enix outlines the Free Trial’s content in clear terms: the Free Trial allows players to play up to level 80 and includes the base game, FINAL FANTASY XIV: A Realm Reborn, along with the first three expansions—Heavensward, Stormblood and Shadowbringers.

This gives new players substantial access to the game’s storylines and systems without an initial subscription, while the Starter/Complete Edition 30-day period provides a temporary full-service experience after purchase.

For players on Nintendo’s Switch 2 hardware who want to plan ahead, Square Enix’s official FAQ and support pages remain the authoritative sources for subscription tiers, billing timelines, and instructions on upgrading accounts.

The publisher’s announcement provides a clear schedule so players can decide whether to continue with the Free Trial, take advantage of the 30-day Starter/Complete Edition window beginning September 8, 2026, or subscribe to the full service once those periods conclude.
