Tiny Metal 2 Playtest Live on Steam — AREA 35 Opens Limited Build

Tiny Metal 2 Playtest Live on Steam

AREA 35's turn-based strategy sequel Tiny Metal 2 has opened its first public playtest on Steam, offering players an early look at new features including naval combat and expanded multiplayer.

The playtest went live on April 22, 2026, and will remain available through April 30, 2026, concluding at 5:00 AM EDT.

The limited Steam playtest includes single-player missions and local multiplayer for up to four players, and it represents the series' first practical demonstration of naval warfare mechanics such as submarines and battleships.

According to developer communications, the build is intended to gather player feedback to improve the game's systems: the team is using the playtest to refine game balance, pacing and overall gameplay systems, and feedback will be used directly to shape further development.

Background and confirmed features

Tiny Metal 2 was announced on September 26, 2025, with AREA 35 confirming the title for Steam and noting that additional platforms will be specified at a later date.

The sequel continues the story of Artemisian Army Major Nathan Gries and promises an expanded roster, with 18 commanders confirmed.

Campaign mode will cater to solo players, while Skirmish Mode — playable locally or online — supports matches of up to eight players across more than 100 maps.

The production includes cinematics by SAFEHOUSE, noted for work such as Gundam: Requiem for Vengeance, and voice talent that includes Toshiyuki Toyonaga, Daisuke Ono and Kenichiro Matsuda.

AREA 35 has positioned Tiny Metal 2 as a substantial follow-up to the 2017 original, offering new modes and features aimed at turn-based strategy fans.

As the playtest continues through April 30, players and press can experience naval combat and core systems firsthand on Steam.

AREA 35 has asked testers to report issues and provide feedback via the channels linked on the game's Steam page, so early impressions will likely influence final tuning ahead of the full release.
