Sega Amusements has unveiled House of the Dead: Reawakened, a VR-based iteration of its long-running light-gun series, sharing footage on 28 October 2026 ahead of a full showcase at IAAPA Orlando (17–20 November 2026). The announcement comes from SEGA’s arcade division, which is positioning the project as a premium, operator-focused attraction rather than a conventional console release. A short teaser posted earlier in October and identified by Arcade Heroes highlighted new hardware and two guns that reportedly match those used in the 2022 coin-op VR Agent, a collaboration between Sega and 3MindWave. Sega Amusements’ official site lists a page for House of the Dead: Reawakened, and Attractions Magazine has indicated the attraction will run on Unreal Engine 5. Sega Amusements leadership framed the launch as a deliberate return for the franchise. CEO Siraj Elkhawad said the team wanted to bring the franchise back to arcades in its most ambitious form, tying the release to the series’ upcoming 30th anniversary and emphasizing respect for the brand’s legacy in horror gaming. Manufacturing and R&D Director Nigel Allison explained the hardware choices were driven by operator feedback — cable damage being a common issue — and described a custom-armoured HMD cable harness developed with DPVR that has been load-tested to 286 lbs (130 kg) and will be covered by a 12-month warranty. Sega staff also reported positive early reactions from operator previews. Justin Burke noted that previews have generated strong interest and that questions from partners have focused on production schedules and shipment volumes. Patrick Michael, Head of External Development & Partnerships, said secret location tests produced notable replay behavior, with players returning to the queue for second and third sessions immediately after finishing. Attractions Magazine further describes a miniature themed façade for the unit, featuring an 85-inch display as a front entrance and two 43-inch vertical displays as shuttered windows — details aimed at operators planning floor layouts for arcades and attractions. House of the Dead as a series began in 1997 and has received multiple arcade sequels, with the most recent coin-op entry being 2018’s House of the Dead: Scarlet Dawn. The franchise has also spawned console spin-offs such as House of the Dead: Overkill and The Typing of the Dead, and a related side-scrolling brawler, Zombie Revenge, is commonly associated with the brand. House of the Dead: Reawakened will be presented to IAAPA attendees and arcade operators in November 2026; Sega Amusements has focused communications on hardware robustness, operator support, and delivering a high-end VR attraction rather than a Nintendo Switch or eShop-style consumer release.
