Minecraft Chaos Cubed Drop: Mojang Confirms June 16, 2026 Update at Twitchcon Rotterdam

Mojang used a special Minecraft Live presentation at Twitchcon Rotterdam to roll out a slate of updates across the Minecraft franchise, confirming the Chaos Cubed Drop update release date and providing new details on Minecraft Dungeons II and the upcoming movie sequel.

The studio, which has overseen Minecraft since Microsoft acquired Mojang in 2014, also reminded audiences why the franchise remains one of the best-selling games of all time.

Chaos Cubed Drop — release date and features

Mojang confirmed the Chaos Cubed Drop update for Minecraft will release on 16 June 2026.

The update introduces a new passive mob called the sulfur cube and expands underground content with sulfur caves, spikes, springs and geysers.

Mojang explained that sulfur cubes are passive creatures that absorb blocks placed nearby; different blocks change a cube’s movement and behavior, letting players make a cube bounce, slide or launch.

The studio also noted players can collect a sulfur cube using a bucket to transport it safely.

The update will also add new block sets, the Bounce music disc, and additional world elements tied to the sulfur cave theme.

Dappled Forest biome and testing schedule

Mojang unveiled a new biome called the Dappled Forest, which includes new wool stairs and slabs and abandoned camp structures.

The developer said testing for the Dappled Forest will begin this summer, indicating the team intends to iterate with community feedback prior to wider rollout.

LEGO Chicken Mounts now available

Mojang highlighted a LEGO Chicken Mounts offering that is available now on the Minecraft Marketplace.

The studio encouraged players interested in riding, customizing or fighting while mounted to download the pack from the Marketplace.

Minecraft Dungeons II and movie sequel

Mojang reconfirmed that Minecraft Dungeons II remains on track for a 2026 release window and showed additional biomes and a new storyline.

For the first time in the Dungeons series players will be able to explore the Deep Dark, which includes a new boss called the Twisted Warden.

On the film front, the sequel is officially titled A Minecraft Movie Squared, and actor Kirsten Dunst has been confirmed to portray Alex.

Mojang also announced a building competition whose winner may see their creation featured in the film’s end credits or within the movie itself.

As always, Mojang continues to update Minecraft across platforms including Nintendo Switch and digital storefronts like the Minecraft Marketplace and eShop, while keeping community-driven testing and iterative updates central to its development process.
