The Nintendo Switch 2 edition arrives as a native next-generation release with graphical improvements, and Mojang has confirmed launch details and edition pricing ahead of the October 27 release.
According to Mojang Studios, owners of the digital Minecraft on the original Nintendo Switch can pre-order the digital Standard Edition for Nintendo Switch 2 at no charge, with optional paid upgrades to the Deluxe or Ultimate editions available at a discounted rate.
Mojang clarified that this digital upgrade offer is available through the Nintendo eShop until January 31, 2027, and is present in most territories but excludes Japan and Taiwan.
The developer also confirmed that user data from the Switch 1 version can be carried over to the Switch 2 release.
Mojang has not provided an upgrade path for physical cartridge owners, and there is currently no official word on whether physical Switch 1 cartridge holders will receive a comparable upgrade option.
The Switch 2 release will also be sold in retail as a Game-Key Card edition.
Retail pricing for players who are not eligible for the free digital upgrade has been published:
- Standard Edition: $29.99
- Deluxe Edition: $39.99
- Ultimate Edition: $49.99
All editions include the Super Mario Mash-Up Pack and the Vibrant Visuals graphical upgrades.
