Rain World, the critically acclaimed survival platformer developed by Videocult, is set for a significant expansion with the upcoming The Watcher DLC.
After initially being announced for the Nintendo Switch with a projected release date in March 2025, publisher Akupara Games has now confirmed that Rain World: The Watcher will officially arrive on Nintendo’s hybrid console on September 25, 2025.
This new content brings an array of fresh features, expanding the world that has captivated gamers since its debut.
The DLC, titled The Watcher, promises to introduce players to previously unexplored regions teeming with grotesque, menacing, and entirely new species.
These areas have been designed to challenge even the most seasoned explorers, pushing their survival instincts to the limits.
As the very foundations of the game world begin to collapse, players will face existential questions: will they endure the creeping darkness or push forward into uncharted territory? The expansion's premise places players as a lone slugcat striving to outlast the dangers lurking within a landscape that is constantly shifting and fraught with peril.
According to Videocult, The Watcher DLC is much more than just a new region; players can expect multiple unrevealed zones, an assortment of innovative mechanics, additional items, characters, branching paths and endings.
For veterans and newcomers alike, these enhancements will fundamentally alter the gameplay experience.
Accompanying the DLC launch is the arrival of Rain World version 1.5 on Nintendo Switch, further broadening the game’s offerings.
The update will roll out an impressive suite of features, including over 50 new Arena maps, full Arena Mode support, and an expanded Jolly Co-Op mode tailored for The Watcher content.
Notably, Jolly Co-Op support is also being retroactively enabled for all five Downpour campaigns, making cooperative play more accessible across the game’s extensive content.
Rain World initially launched on Nintendo Switch in late 2018 and has since gained a loyal following due to its atmospheric world-building and challenging gameplay loop.
The Downpour expansion, released previously, was lauded for its substantial improvements and fresh storylines, cementing Rain World’s position as a standout indie title on the Nintendo eShop.
The Watcher's promise of new art, music, and creatures is set to further raise the bar, offering a revitalized experience for Switch owners.
To date, Rain World and its expansions have marked significant milestones for both Videocult and publisher Akupara Games, demonstrating sustained post-launch support and a strong commitment to content updates.
With the September 25, 2025 release date for The Watcher DLC and accompanying game updates, Nintendo Switch players can look forward to a transformative new chapter in the Rain World universe.
