Big Fan and Shiny Shoe have officially announced The Punished, a paid DLC expansion for Monster Train 2, arriving on Nintendo Switch on November 10, 2026.
The developers also confirmed a Nintendo Switch 2 version will launch later in the year alongside the DLC.
The Punished expansion is priced at $7.99 and comes as Monster Train 2 surpasses the milestone of more than one million players to date.
Context and release details
Monster Train 2 launched with a commitment to post-launch support and The Punished represents the final planned paid add-on in that cycle.
The Switch version of The Punished is set for release on November 10, 2026, with a Nintendo Switch 2 edition scheduled for the end of 2026.
The DLC's $7.99 price will be available on Nintendo's eShop and other retail channels where Monster Train 2 is sold.
What The Punished adds
The Punished introduces a new playable Clan led by Archus, described as Darkness Incarnate.
This Clan centers on a sacrifice-driven playstyle: players may sacrifice cards to a Monolith to build a resource called Devotion, while converting that sacrifice into Zeal that bolsters the Clan’s units.
According to the developer outline, the mechanic trades unit health for escalating power—damage sustained by The Punished’s ranks is transformed into potent effects and buffs that increase the Clan’s strength and induce greater harm on opponents.
Developer roadmap and previous content
Big Fan and Shiny Shoe indicated that The Punished will conclude Monster Train 2’s series of post-launch content updates.
Those updates previously included multiple free patches for all players, and the prior Destiny of the Railforged DLC delivered a substantial suite of additions highlighted by a large new game mode and challenge.
Impact and player base
With over one million players now recorded for Monster Train 2, The Punished arrives at a moment of sustained community engagement.
The announced Switch and Switch 2 releases expand platform availability and ensure the DLC will reach handheld and next-generation Nintendo hardware.
For Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 owners, The Punished offers a focused, tactical addition to Monster Train 2’s roguelike deckbuilding formula, available November 10, 2026 on Nintendo Switch and later in 2026 on Nintendo Switch 2.
