Katana Zero DLC Confirmed by Askiisoft — Sequel-Sized Expansion with 30+ New Tracks

Askiisoft, the indie studio behind the 2019 action-platformer Katana Zero, has confirmed that its long-awaited downloadable content has grown substantially in scope.

Originally announced as a free expansion several years ago, lead designer Justin Stander posted on social media on October 22, 2026, to update fans on the project's status for platforms including Nintendo Switch.

In his update, Stander said he is continuing active work on the Katana Zero DLC and that the content has expanded to the point where it is effectively the size of a full sequel.

He also confirmed the expansion will ship with an extensive new soundtrack, totaling more than 30 additional songs.

Stander closed the message by noting further updates will be provided as development progresses.

This is not the first time Askiisoft has discussed the scale of the DLC.

In 2021 the developer said the expansion was already several times larger than initially anticipated, and that work would continue until the team was satisfied with the final product.

Askiisoft has consistently characterized the add-on as a free update for existing owners of Katana Zero.

Katana Zero originally launched in 2019 and is available on Nintendo Switch via the Nintendo eShop.

The title is an action-platformer known for its one-hit-kill combat, time-manipulation mechanics, and neo-noir presentation.

At the time of writing, the base game remains for sale on the eShop.

When reviewing Katana Zero on Switch at launch, Matthew Weidner praised the title for its addictive, fast-paced design and highlighted its gritty neo-noir narrative, '80s-inspired synth soundtrack, and tightly tuned twitch gameplay as complementary elements that deliver intense, rewarding runs.

For Nintendo Switch owners and indie-action fans, Stander’s October 22 update provides the clearest status report in years: the DLC is actively in development, has expanded into a substantial body of work, and will include an extensive new score.

As always, official channels — Askiisoft’s social accounts and the Katana Zero product pages on platform stores such as the Nintendo eShop — are the primary sources for future release information and distribution details.
