Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket, the latest entry in The Pokémon Company's celebrated digital TCG offerings, has quickly become a mobile phenomenon since its launch.
Available on major mobile platforms, TCG Pocket modernizes the beloved trading card experience for a new generation of trainers and collectors.
Despite an overwhelmingly positive reception and a rapidly growing player base, one highly anticipated feature has been noticeably absent: card trading.
At launch, The Pokémon Company clarified that trainers would not be able to trade cards immediately.
Now, in an official update released on November 14, 2024, the company has confirmed that trading functionality is set to arrive in January 2025.
This upcoming feature, however, will debut as a phased rollout.
According to The Pokémon Company, trading in TCG Pocket will initially allow only selected cards to be exchanged between users.
The development team outlined their approach, stating that the card pool eligible for trading will start small and increase gradually over time.
"We will begin by permitting only certain cards to be traded, and plan to steadily expand the available selection as development progresses," The Pokémon Company confirmed in its statement.
This methodical, staged release is designed to ensure both stability and fairness within the TCG Pocket ecosystem as the platform evolves.
Beyond the trading update, The Pokémon Company also shared that fans can look forward to additional content before year's end.
New booster packs are set to be added to the TCG Pocket catalog, expanding the game's already robust deck-building options.
In addition, the company disclosed that other new features are currently in development, with specific details and launch dates to be revealed in future announcements.
"Further information about upcoming updates will be announced as their rollout dates are finalized, so we encourage trainers to stay tuned for more details," the official update noted.
This focus on transparent communication aligns with The Pokémon Company's ongoing support for its dedicated community of trading card game enthusiasts.
Since its debut, Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket has demonstrated broad appeal both to new players and veterans of the Nintendo franchise.
The forthcoming trading feature, alongside the promise of fresh booster packs and innovative new functions, ensures that TCG Pocket will remain at the forefront of digital card gaming well into 2025.
Fans are encouraged to monitor the official Pokémon community channels and eShop listings for the latest updates on features, booster packs, and trading mechanics.
