Pokémon Scarlet and Violet: 'The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero' DLC Receives Boxed Code Release in Hong Kong

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet continues to captivate fans worldwide with its upcoming expansion, The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero.

Developed by Game Freak and published by Nintendo and The Pokémon Company, the two-part DLC is set to expand the blockbuster Nintendo Switch title with new stories, Pokémon, and adventure.

The first chapter, The Teal Mask, will be released on September 13, 2023, followed by the second installment, The Indigo Disk, later in winter 2023. In a move that mirrors previous practices for Pokémon content, Nintendo is now offering a unique retail solution for dedicated trainers in Hong Kong.

The company has released a packaged version of The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero DLC, available as a "code in a box"—allowing fans to add a collectible element to their shelf despite the digital nature of the content.

Rather than including a physical cartridge, the box contains a code that enables players to unlock both The Teal Mask and The Indigo Disk expansions when redeemed on the Nintendo Switch eShop.

Notably, the DLC code does not include either version of the base Pokémon Scarlet or Pokémon Violet game, requiring players to own the original title before accessing additional content. Nintendo's Hong Kong division has highlighted the importance of redeeming the correct version of the DLC, as owners need to ensure that they purchase and apply the expansion code for either Pokémon Scarlet or Pokémon Violet, depending on their original game.

This approach is consistent with previous distributions seen in titles such as Pokémon Sword and Shield, where similar boxed code editions were made available, offering collectors an opportunity to own a tangible piece of the DLC release. While this boxed code edition has, for now, only been announced for Hong Kong, the precedent set by Pokémon Sword and Shield's expansion pass release leaves hope for similar offerings in other regions.

As of this writing, no details have been disclosed regarding a Western release of the retail package for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet's DLC.

In the meantime, players worldwide continue to have robust digital purchasing options through the Nintendo Switch eShop, ensuring access to upcoming content regardless of region. Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, launched in November 2022, stands as one of the Nintendo Switch's fastest-selling titles, with millions of copies shipped globally.

As the Switch platform continues to thrive, Nintendo and The Pokémon Company are demonstrating their commitment to both digital innovation and physical collectability, catering to long-time fans and newcomers alike.

Stay tuned for further updates on potential regional DLC releases and expansion details as The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero journey unfolds.
