Deltarune Launches with Midnight Release and Cross-Buy on Nintendo Switch and Switch 2

Toby Fox’s acclaimed indie RPG, Deltarune, is gearing up for its much-anticipated full release, and the latest Deltarune newsletter has revealed crucial details on launch timing and player benefits.

With prior chapters captivating fans on a variety of platforms, Deltarune's upcoming chapter is set to debut on both the Nintendo Switch and the newly announced Switch 2, continuing Fox’s tradition of simultaneous multi-platform support. According to Toby Fox, Deltarune will be available for download at midnight local time on Switch 2, maximizing launch timing accessibility for players across different regions.

On all other platforms, including the current Nintendo Switch, the game’s release is set for 12 a.m.

JST (Japan Standard Time), aligning with coordinated global rollout strategies seen in other major Nintendo eShop releases. One of the most notable features confirmed in the newsletter is cross-buy support between Nintendo Switch and Switch 2.

For most regions, users who purchase Deltarune on the Nintendo Switch eShop will automatically receive access to the Switch 2 version at no additional charge.

Conversely, purchasing the title first on Switch 2 will entitle players to download the Switch 1 version for free.

'Whether you start your adventure on Switch or Switch 2, one single purchase gets you both versions of the game, as long as you use the same Nintendo Account,' reads Fox's announcement, rewritten for clarity. However, there is an exception for Japanese players.

Due to specific local regulations, fans in Japan will need to pay a small fee to obtain the cross-buy benefit and access Deltarune on both versions of Nintendo’s hardware.

This distinction is consistent with Japanese licensing practices around game software and digital distribution. Deltarune’s release strategy continues to underscore Toby Fox’s commitment to player-friendly practices and flexible digital ownership.
