Today 7th Beat Games announced that Rhythm Doctor will receive a Nintendo Switch 2 Edition and that the title is arriving on both of Nintendo’s consoles this December.
Rhythm Doctor was first announced for Nintendo Switch in 2018, and nearly a decade after that initial reveal the game is finally set to appear on Nintendo hardware.
The announcement was accompanied by a new trailer detailing the Switch and Switch 2 editions.
What Rhythm Doctor is and how it plays
Rhythm Doctor is a one-button rhythm game in which players time a single input on the seventh beat of each measure to restart patients’ hearts.
The developer describes the core mechanic as intentionally simple — a single, precisely timed action — while the game’s challenge comes from musical complexity.
Each level introduces rhythm concepts such as polyrhythms, hemiolas and irregular time signatures in a way designed to teach players rhythm and music theory organically.
Key features (as announced)
- 20+ handmade levels, each presenting distinct rhythm concepts and narrative beats
- Every level introduces a different concept of rhythm theory in an accessible format
- A character-driven story featuring a cast of doctors and patients
- Drop-in, drop-out local multiplayer across the campaign
- A robust level editor that lets players create, share and play community levels using their own music and more than 50 visual effects and backgrounds
- Challenging “Night Shift” variants for each level that raise the difficulty
Platform and release details
The studio confirmed a Nintendo Switch 2 Edition alongside a Nintendo Switch release slated for this December, and indicated the game will be available on Nintendo’s digital storefronts.
The trailer released with the announcement showcases gameplay, the level editor and examples of the Night Shift difficulty modes.
Why this matters
Rhythm Doctor has been a standout indie rhythm title noted for teaching complex musical concepts through gameplay instead of tutorials.
Bringing the game to both the Nintendo Switch and the upcoming Switch 2 opens those mechanics to a broader console audience and adds native local multiplayer and level-sharing features that suit handheld and docked play.
