Description

Nintendo has expanded its Nintendo Switch Online service library once again, bringing a wave of nostalgia to long-time fans and creative gamers.

Mario Paint, a classic Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) title renowned for its unique fusion of art, animation, and music creation, is now officially available to Nintendo Switch Online subscribers.

This release is accompanied by a significant software update that introduces mouse control support for a selection of SNES games in the Nintendo Classics app. Mario Paint, originally released in 1992 for the SNES, stood out for enabling players to unleash their creativity through digital drawing, music composition, and simple animations—all made possible on the original hardware through the SNES Mouse accessory.

The Nintendo Switch version pays faithful tribute to these innovative features by adding support for mouse-like controls using the Joy-Con 2 controller or a compatible USB mouse.

Players can easily adjust mouse speed within the game by navigating to the dedicated 'MOUSE SPEED' setting accessible through the mouse icon on the in-game menu. In addition to Mario Paint, several other strategy and simulation classics within the Nintendo Switch Online’s SNES library—including Nobunaga’s Ambition, Nobunaga’s Ambition: Lord of Darkness, Romance of the Three Kingdoms IV: Wall of Fire, and Uncharted Waters: New Horizons—have all been updated to support the new input method.

This enhancement is available with the rollout of Super Nintendo Entertainment System – Nintendo Classics app version 5.0.0, underscoring Nintendo’s ongoing commitment to improve playability and preserve the legacy experience for modern audiences. To access Mario Paint and these upgraded controls, users should ensure their Nintendo Switch is updated to the latest version of the SNES Classics app.

Nintendo reminds players that while experiencing online features, such as user-generated content, they have the ability to flag inappropriate material in-line with community guidelines.

This reporting can be done directly from the game's Suspend Menu, ensuring a safe and respectful gaming environment. Nintendo Switch Online continues to offer flexible membership pricing to cater to both individual players and families.

The 12-month Family Membership, supporting up to eight users, is priced at £31.49 ($34.99).

For those seeking expanded access including additional classic titles and downloadable content, the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack is available at £34.99 ($49.99) annually for individuals and £59.99 ($79.99) for families. The addition of Mario Paint not only enriches the SNES catalogue on Nintendo Switch Online but also highlights Nintendo’s focus on bringing classic experiences to new generations.
