Mario Party and Mario Party 2 Join Nintendo Switch Online’s Expanding Nintendo 64 Library

Nintendo continues to celebrate its rich legacy of party games as it expands the Nintendo 64 library for Nintendo Switch Online subscribers.

Arriving November 2, 2022, two beloved entries—Mario Party and Mario Party 2—will officially be available for players to enjoy on the Nintendo Switch system.

This announcement reinforces Nintendo’s ongoing efforts to bring classic gaming experiences to a new generation through its Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack service. Originally launched on the Nintendo 64 in 1998 (Mario Party) and 1999 (Mario Party 2), both titles are widely recognized for setting the standard in the party game genre.

Developed by Hudson Soft and published by Nintendo, the Mario Party franchise quickly became a staple for multiplayer fun, with its engaging mini-games, dynamic board maps, and signature Mario flair. By adding these two iconic games to the Nintendo 64 lineup on Switch, Nintendo aims to provide both nostalgic value and timeless entertainment to current players.

Nintendo stated that "fans can relive the original Mario Party experience and continue the fun with Mario Party 2, both accessible with a Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack membership." With this addition, subscribers gain access to classic virtual board game action and over 100 mini-games from the series’ formative years. Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack is the company’s premium subscription service offering access to a curated library of retro titles from platforms such as the Nintendo 64, Sega Genesis, and more.

Since its launch, the service has featured other notable Nintendo 64 classics like The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and Super Mario 64, steadily growing its value proposition to both new and veteran gamers. Mario Party and Mario Party 2 have enjoyed enduring popularity, not only for their gameplay variety and competitive spirit but also for introducing party game elements that are now fundamental in multiplayer design.
