Nintendo has officially reconfirmed that the identity of Mario’s new voice actor in Super Mario Bros.

Wonder will only be disclosed within the game’s credits when the highly anticipated title launches for the Nintendo Switch.

This announcement follows ongoing speculation from fans about who would take over the iconic role, after longtime Mario voice actor Charles Martinet transitioned to a new position as Mario Ambassador earlier this year. The confirmation came directly from Doug Bowser, President of Nintendo of America, during an interview with IGN at Nintendo Live 2023.

Bowser clarified Nintendo’s position by stating that the company does not intend to announce the new voice actor in advance and that players will discover the identity only after completing the game.

In that conversation, Bowser explained, “Players will learn who the new person is within the credits; we don’t plan to make any announcement ahead of the game’s release.” Nintendo previously addressed the fan community, asking everyone to “please wait for the game to be released” in order to find out who would be providing voices for Mario and Luigi in Super Mario Bros.

The company’s move is consistent with a measured, traditional approach to game development announcements, focusing attention on the launch itself and allowing players to experience the game firsthand before learning additional details about its creation. Charles Martinet, who has been the recognizable voice behind Mario across countless Nintendo Switch, Wii, and 3DS titles—as well as earlier platforms—is stepping away from the main role but will continue his association with the Mushroom Kingdom in his new capacity.

According to Bowser, Martinet is "very excited" about this new chapter, and Nintendo is looking forward to his ongoing contributions within the company.

However, Martinet himself recently remarked at a convention that he is still discovering what his ambassador role will entail and expects to learn more alongside fans as Nintendo communicates further details. Super Mario Bros.

Wonder is set to release exclusively for the Nintendo Switch, continuing a franchise legacy that has sold millions of copies worldwide across the Nintendo Direct, eShop, and other platforms.

The decision to keep the new Mario voice actor’s identity under wraps until launch builds anticipation for both fans of the character and the greater gaming community, reinforcing Nintendo’s focus on the player experience. As the release date for Super Mario Bros.

Wonder approaches, fans can look forward to uncovering the new voice behind one of gaming’s most beloved icons—right within the game itself.
