Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave Dungeons Confirmed for Nintendo Switch 2

Nintendo has confirmed that dungeons will be a gameplay element in Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave, the next mainline entry in the long-running tactical RPG series developed by Intelligent Systems and published by Nintendo for Nintendo Switch 2.

The game received an expanded look during the most recent Nintendo Direct, following its initial reveal several months ago, and the presentation clarified how exploration will factor into the title’s broader structure.

According to Nintendo, dungeons will be an element players can explore between Heroic Games matches.

The Direct footage included a brief scene showing the character Leda opening a chest, and Nintendo has stated that this moment is representative of the dungeon exploration players will undertake.

Beyond that confirmation, Nintendo has not released detailed mechanics or exhaustive specifics about dungeon design or systems.

Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave centers on the Heroic Games, a competitive event that offers the in-universe prize of a single wish to the victor.

Nintendo’s materials and Direct coverage emphasize that much of the game’s loop revolves around those matches, but developers are also building out out-of-battle activities.

Nintendo confirmed players will be able to train and recruit allies in the region of Dagsion, and they will have opportunities to venture into the field to fight bandits and monsters to strengthen their forces.

Nintendo also noted that preparation time between major events will be limited, placing a premium on efficient use of downtime.

The inclusion of dungeons recalls Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia on Nintendo 3DS, which allowed players to explore dungeons, engage in skirmishes, and open chests while navigating a larger overworld.

Echoes remains the most recent mainline Fire Emblem entry with a comparable emphasis on exploration outside tactical battles.

Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave is scheduled to launch for Nintendo Switch 2 on September 17, 2026.

With the release date confirmed, the industry will be watching for additional updates from Nintendo and Intelligent Systems that clarify dungeon mechanics, progression systems, and how exploration interacts with the Heroic Games.

For now, Nintendo’s Direct has established that exploration and chest-seeking moments will coexist with the franchise’s signature tactical combat.
