Nintendo Continues Its Legacy at San Diego Comic-Con 2016 With Exciting Play Nintendo Tour Experiences
Nintendo enthusiasts and Comic-Con attendees alike are set for an electrifying experience as Nintendo announces a robust presence at San Diego Comic-Con 2016.
Occurring from July 21 to July 24, 2016, in downtown San Diego, the event will feature the celebrated Play Nintendo Tour alongside the Play Nintendo Family Lounge, providing hands-on access to an extensive lineup of games for fans of all ages.
Located on the first floor of the Marriott Marquis San Diego Marina, adjacent to the San Diego Convention Center, Nintendo's Play Nintendo Family Lounge is designed as an interactive hub for Comic-Con visitors.
Fans can look forward to playing the newest Nintendo 3DS and Wii U titles, participating in tournaments and challenges, and enjoying exclusive photo opportunities with beloved characters from franchises such as Mario Kart, Splatoon, and Pokémon.
Cindy Gordon, Nintendo of America’s Vice President of Corporate Affairs, stated in a press briefing that San Diego Comic-Con serves as the perfect platform for showcasing Nintendo’s diverse entertainment.
She emphasized, “With such a wide variety of activities and experiences available, there’s truly something for every attendee this year.”
Signature events at the Nintendo Family Lounge include the Super Smash Bros.
for Wii U 12 & Under Tournament held on July 23, supported by live streaming via Nintendo’s official Twitch channel, and the multi-day Play Nintendo Challenge, featuring game favorites like Splatoon, Mario Kart 8, and Pokkén Tournament.
Tournament entrants and challenge participants will compete for exclusive Nintendo merchandise, with sign-ups allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.
Fans of the YO-KAI WATCH franchise can meet voice actors Alicyn Packard, J.W.
Terry, and Melissa Hutchison during a special Q&A session on July 22, while all Pokémon fans are invited to the Pokémon Fan Gathering Area open throughout the convention.
Among the playable highlights for Nintendo 3DS are Monster Hunter Generations (Capcom), launching July 15, and Metroid Prime: Federation Force, released August 19.
Upcoming titles like YO-KAI WATCH 2, launching September 30, and Style Savvy: Fashion Forward, available August 19, also make their Comic-Con debut—giving fans hands-on time ahead of launch.
For Wii U, hit titles include Splatoon, Mario Kart 8, and Pokkén Tournament, all available for gameplay during the event.
Splatoon activities, including multiplayer battles, the final Splatfest, and amiibo challenges, headline Nintendo’s booth (#235) on the show floor.
Additionally, visitors have early access to Style Savvy: Fashion Forward and the YO-KAI WATCH 2 game before their public release.
Fans purchasing YO-KAI WATCH 2 can choose between Bony Spirits and Fleshy Souls, both offering unique Yo-kai to befriend and bonuses, including exclusive Hasbro Yo-kai Medals for physical editions and special digital-only Yo-kai such as Sailornyan or Robonyan F.
The Play Nintendo Family Lounge operates July 21–23 from 10 a.m.
to 7 p.m., and July 24 from 10 a.m.
