Mario Balloon to Debut in 99th Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, Celebrating 40 Years of Super Mario Bros.

Nintendo is bringing one of gaming’s most recognizable icons to a time-honored American tradition.

The renowned Mario character will take to the skies above Manhattan as a special balloon during the 99th Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, marking the 40th anniversary of Super Mario Bros.

This collaboration between Nintendo of America and Macy’s Parade Studio unites two cultural powerhouses, promising a memorable appearance for Mario fans and parade watchers alike. The Mario balloon was expertly crafted by Macy’s Parade Studio’s seasoned artists in close partnership with Nintendo of America.

Measuring an impressive 51 feet and 2 inches long, 37 feet wide, and standing at a towering 43 feet and 8 inches tall, the new character balloon captures Mario in a dynamic airborne pose.

This design draws inspiration from "Super Mario Galaxy," showcasing the beloved plumber in his traditional blue overalls and iconic red cap, ready to soar above the city. Devon Pritchard, Executive Vice President of Revenue, Marketing & Consumer Experience at Nintendo of America, emphasized the significance of this milestone.

She stated that having Mario participate in such a celebrated holiday event is a remarkable tribute to the enduring legacy of Super Mario Bros., which celebrates its 40th anniversary this year.

Pritchard echoed the sentiment that since Mario’s debut from the classic Warp Pipe, he has symbolized Nintendo's vision of delivering happiness and smiles worldwide.

She added that the Nintendo team is thrilled for fans of every age to witness Mario’s parade debut. On behalf of Macy’s, Jordan Dabby, producer of the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, highlighted the longstanding tradition of featuring beloved characters each Thanksgiving morning.

This year’s parade will be broadcast nationwide on Thursday, November 27, airing from 8:30 a.m.
